API Documentation Alignment Report

Date: 2025-10-04 Purpose: Align API documentation with updated PRD requirements (FR13, FR16 removed; FR7, FR14, FR18, FR22 enhanced)

Executive Summary

The API documentation has been successfully updated to reflect the current PRD (prd-enhanced.md) after removal of FR13 (AI recommendations) and FR16 (community features), and enhancement of FR7 (email templates), FR14 (notification preferences), FR18 (topic backlog), and FR22 (role management).

Total Changes:

  • âś… 1 API cleaned up (removed outdated language)
  • âś… 4 new endpoint groups added
  • âś… 2 schemas significantly enhanced
  • âś… 8 new schema definitions added
  • âś… 0 endpoints removed (FR13/FR16 had no implemented endpoints)

Detailed Changes

1. Attendee Experience API - Removed FR13 References

File: docs/architecture/04-api-attendee-experience.md

Changes Made:

  • ❌ Removed “personalized content recommendations” from document header
  • ❌ Removed “AI-powered content discovery” from overview
  • ❌ Removed “Personalized content recommendations” from endpoint list
  • ❌ Removed entire “Content Recommendations” section (lines 254-261)

Rationale: FR13 was removed from PRD per Sprint Change Proposal 2025-10-01. The content search functionality (FR11) remains, but AI-powered personalization features are out of scope for MVP.

Impact:

  • No endpoint changes (recommendation endpoints were never added)
  • Documentation now accurately reflects MVP scope
  • Attendee Experience API focuses on full-text search only

2. Event Management API - Added FR18 Topic Backlog Endpoints

File: docs/architecture/04-api-event-management.md

New Endpoints Added:

Topic Backlog Management

    • Supports sorting by staleness, usage_count, last_used, similarity
    • Returns TopicBacklogItem[] with analytics
  2. POST /api/v1/topics/backlog

    • Add new topic to backlog
    • Automatic duplicate detection via ML similarity scoring
    • Returns 409 Conflict if similar topic exists (similarity > 0.8)
  3. GET /api/v1/topics/backlog/{topicId}/similarity

    • ML-powered similarity analysis for topic
    • Configurable similarity threshold (default: 0.7)
    • Returns SimilarTopicMatch[] with recommended actions
  4. GET /api/v1/topics/backlog/{topicId}/staleness

    • Get staleness metrics and recommended wait period
    • Analyzes historical patterns and partner influence
    • Returns TopicStalenessMetrics with recommendation

New Schemas Added:

  • TopicBacklogItem - Complete topic metadata with heat map data
  • CreateTopicBacklogRequest - Topic creation with similarity checking
  • SimilarTopicMatch - ML similarity results with recommended action
  • TopicStalenessMetrics - Comprehensive staleness analysis

Updated:

  • Overview section now mentions “Topic backlog management with ML-powered similarity and staleness detection”
  • API Design overview updated to include topic backlog endpoints

Rationale: FR18 requires smart topic backlog management with:

  • Visual heat map showing usage frequency over time
  • ML-powered similarity scoring for duplicate detection
  • Staleness detection with recommended wait periods
  • Partner influence metrics

Impact:

  • 4 new endpoints supporting FR18 requirements
  • 4 new schemas with comprehensive topic analytics
  • Enables intelligent topic selection workflow for Epic 2

3. Partner Coordination API - Enhanced FR14 Notification Preferences

File: docs/architecture/04-api-partner-coordination.md

Schema Enhancements:

NotificationPreferences (Completely Restructured)

Before:

yaml
NotificationPreferences:
  emailEnabled: boolean
  emailFrequency: enum
  realTimeEnabled: boolean
  notificationTypes:
    speakerInvitations: boolean
    eventUpdates: boolean
    ...

After:

yaml
NotificationPreferences:
  channels:
    email:
      enabled: boolean
      frequency: enum [immediate, daily_digest, weekly_digest]
    inApp:
      enabled: boolean
      soundEnabled: boolean
    push:
      enabled: boolean
      deviceTokens: string[]
    sms:
      enabled: boolean
      phoneNumber: string
      criticalOnly: boolean
  quietHours:
    enabled: boolean
    startTime: string (HH:MM)
    endTime: string (HH:MM)
    timezone: string (IANA)
    allowCritical: boolean
  notificationTypes:
    speakerInvitations: NotificationTypePreference
    eventUpdates: NotificationTypePreference
    ... (7 types total)

New Schema:

yaml
NotificationTypePreference:
  email: boolean
  inApp: boolean
  push: boolean
  sms: boolean

Key Improvements:

  1. Multi-channel Support: Separate controls for email, in-app, push, SMS
  2. Quiet Hours: Do-not-disturb settings with timezone support
  3. Granular Control: Per-notification-type, per-channel preferences
  4. Critical Notifications: Override quiet hours for critical alerts

Rationale: Enhanced FR14 requires:

  • Granular notification preference controls
  • Opt in/out per notification type
  • Multiple channels (email, in-app, push, SMS)
  • Frequency management and quiet hours settings

Impact:

  • Existing preference endpoints remain unchanged
  • Schema now supports all FR14 requirements
  • Backward compatible (old clients can use simplified subset)

4. Partner Coordination API - Added FR7 Email Template Features

File: docs/architecture/04-api-partner-coordination.md

Schema Enhancements:

EmailTemplate (Enhanced with Versioning and A/B Testing)

New Fields Added:
